Swimming ACT would like to advise that, at this stage, the ACT Relay Championships & the ACT Championships scheduled this weekend at the AIS will be proceeding.
We will be closely monitoring conditions throughout the course of the event, in conjunction with the AIS pool facility management, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone at the swim meets. This includes monitoring any alerts and warnings issued by the ACT Government.
Specific risk mitigation measures we have planned so far for our indoor swim meets are:
- conducting all activities indoors where practicable (e.g. marshalling)
- providing bottles of water for our volunteer officials (in addition to the water bubblers etc. already available at the venue)
- distributing donated icy poles
- scheduled lunch breaks & race sessions not exceeding 3.5 hours.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the challenging January we have had so far and the February forecast conditions for this weekend.
If any competitors decided not to compete at these swim meets this weekend due to the current conditions & their potential impacts, please let us know before or during the event and we will refund meet entries.
Stay safe everyone.
